Due to all the absences thanks to illness we are taking a bit of a tangent, today in the regular classes we figured out our BMI. I told the students repeatedly that this was not a perfect measurement, just an estimation of their BMI, so they need not worry if it told them they were overweight. They then had to figure the BMI for a few sample people. (See Below) If they need help with this they can see http://kidshealth.org/teen/nutrition/weight/bmi.html. In the advanced class we are reviewing Ch. 1 because they have a test Thursday! No homework for them. On a side note, regular classes need to get their projects in fast!!! See ya tomorrow!

The projects are due at the end of class on Thursday. In the advanced class we began looking at tables and graphs today. This is a very vast concept and there is no one way to do all of the objectives, each student will use their own method and I am fine with that as long as they can justify their answers in some way. Tonight's homework is Pg. 45-47 #s 1-10. Tomorrow we will hopefully be doing a graphing assignment in one of the computer labs if I can find one that is open.
Today's kickball scores:
Mrs. Plummer (0-0) defeated Mrs. Marcum (0-0) by a score of 8-6
Mrs. Leitner (0-0) defeated Mrs. Wood (0-0) by a score of 12-5

Rain, Rain, Go away...and stay there! Wednesday is over, it's all downhill from here and we will arrive at the weekend! In the regular classes we went over the word problems that the students had for homework last night. We then had another word problem for an assignment in class, Most students turned in the assignemnt and do not have homework, however there were a fair number of students that need to complete it for homework. In the advanced class we went over last night's homework, intorduced solving algebraic equations containing like terms, and gave them about 20 minutes to work on Pg. 30 #s 19-53 odd. If they did not finish this in class it is homework as always. Keep your head above water tonight, just think at the old building it might have flooded and we could be out of school tomorrow! No Such Luck Eh? See ya tomorrow!

Another one bites the dust! Today went by in a rush, in the regular classes we went over decimal operations and a few word problems (they are listed below). If they didn't finish them in class (Almost all did not complete them) they need to complete for homework. In the advanced class we started on combining like terms in algebraic expressions. For Homework they have Pg. 30 #s 1-15. We also did some vocab which is listed below.
Regular Classes word problems:
1. Shayna is not confident in her answer to this problem: 36/0.03. She keeps getting 1200 as a result. Is her answer correct? Why or why not?
2. Juan is buying bags of peanuts for a healthy snack for his class of 28 students. He has the choice of buying single bags for $0.35 a piece of a box of 15 bags for $4.80. Which is the better choice: buying 28 bags at $0.35 a piece or buying 2 boxes? Justify your answer by showing your work and writing a data conclusion statement.

Back at it again! Well today was a dreary day outside but inside there was a bunch of activity! In the regular classes we worked on decimals (repeating and terminating). The students worked in pairs and completed a Frayer Model on these two types of decimals. We also played a game on the smart board that activated their prior knowledge of decimals. We also added the two words to our vocabulary lists, of course! In the advanced class we took the whole period to look at their quizzes. It was a productive review and hopefully tied up any loose ends that were still hanging out there. Have an awesome evening and be ready to work tomorrow!

Your Assignment for Friday Sept. 18th
Hey guys, I hope you are having a wonderful day thus far! So, here's what I want you to do. In the Novell Box (the one that pops up when you log in to a computer at school) click on the Riverdeep icon. This will take you to a login screen. Your username is your lunch number, the WHOLE THING, and your password is the word "password". Once you login you will find a test to take, click on it (the pop up blocker must be off!). On the next screen you will click "go" to take the test. You have 20 minutes to take the test. Once you are finished the computer will give you a grade. Click back to the main menu and you will find some activities to go through to help you with the problems that you missed on the test. Go through as many of these activities as you can, this will help you get a better grade when you take the test again! Oh, make sure you have headphones on when you go through the activities if you want to hear the guy talk! Have an awesome weekend! -Mr. Mann-

QUIZ TOMORROW!!!!! Today we all worked on study guides in class, students may have to finish it up at home, parents please go over these with the students. This will be the first quiz of the year and will have a major impact on their grades. There will be a substitute on Friday so students will be working in the computer labs. If you can bring a set of headphones that day it would be awesome. Mid-Term grades are due on Friday so grades will be coming home shortly, be looking for those (Of course I know you have been checking Edline each and every day!). Well it's grass cutting and then church for me this afternoon. Catch you guys tomorrow!

Well, today I had some pretty cool stuff for the students to do however.......picture day threw all that out of whack...:( So, instead everybody got a worksheet for some extra practice! If they didn't finish those in class they should do them for homework tonight. In the regular classes the worksheet was double-sided (Lesson 1-2 Exploration Recording Sheet and Lesson 1-2 Practice C). In the advanced they had Lesson 1-5 Practice B to complete. We will hold off the exercise (hint, hint) planned for today until tomorrow. Remember there will be a quiz on Thursday for both classes! Have a wonderful evening, see ya tomorrow! Are you ready for some football?!

The longest 4 day week in history (at least that is what it has felt like!) has come to a close. We rounded up the week with agenda and vocab checks in both the regular and advanced classes (we also checked the regular classes journals.) while the students worked on individual seat work. If they didn't finish those assignments they need to do them for homework (see below for assignments). As for me this weekend, I finally get some time off, nothing going on tonight, I have to get up early to give the ACT at Huntington High Saturday and then watching the Herd take on VT, ending with church all day Sunday as usual! See you Monday. Have a safe and awesome weekend!
Regular Assignment: They should have a table that contains the vital statistics of seventh and eighth grade cheerleaders. Students should find the mean, median, mode, and range of all the statistics.
Advanced Assignment: Double sided worksheet on solving two-step equations.

Football and Volleyball all in one night? You got it, both will be on display tonight. Come out and support! As far as eduaction is concerned...as promised in the regular classes today we found out our resting heart rates and made a line plot of the classes bpm. We also found the mean, median, mode, and range of their group's bpm, the class' bpm, and class' bps (Your child should show you a table filled out). If they did not finish those projects in class they need to finish before tomorrow. In the advanced class we went over solving one and two step equations using addition, subtration, multiplication, and division. Homework is Pg. 16 #s 9-11, 21-26 and Pg. 21 #s 11-14, 19-23. Phew, what a week! The good news? THREE DAY WEEKEND! The first full week is complete! In the regular classes today the students completed a worksheet that I took up and graded (Check Edline!) and while they were completing that I check their agendas (again Check Edline!). After they were finished with their worksheet they were to journal about 2 real world situations, involving health and fitness, where they would have to compare amounts to make a decision. I will check that they have that completed on Tuesday! In the advanced class we went over the homework from last night (good job guys, everyone completed it!!) and then they got to partner up and work on a challenge worksheet. Parents, this worksheet is kinda tuff but hey, it's advanced! That is due Tuesday by the way. Oh, and I checked almost everyone's agenda...but we had a shortened class so I didn't get to everyone so if you check Edline and your child has an ** in the agenda column that simply means I didn't get to them and I will check it Tuesday! In other school happenings the students recieved their first fund raiser of the year, Entertainment Books! Over $12,000 worth of coupons in there, or atleast that's what the sales guy said! So, here are some instructions on those:
1. Don't sell the book they have, that's just to show people an example.
2. Take up the money when you make the sale.
3. Return sample book and sale sheet (I believe they said in 2 weeks we will do that)
4. Students will recieve all the books they sold
5. Hand them out!
**Mr. Mann is not responsible for the above information, to make sure that is correct read the directions in the packet!!**
Have a great Labor Day Weekend, eat a hot dog for me!!!

4 down, 1 to go! In the regular classes today we reviewed the Vocab from yesterday, then we worked on place value with a competition (winners listed below!), and ended on a mini-lesson on how to convert fractions to decimals in order to tell which fractions are larger, phew. We worked hard in class so no homework! If you want some review check out this cool game: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/greenmarble/340766
In the advanced class we continued in Chapter 1. Went though some examples on how to solve different algebraic problems. For classwork/homework (they had 25 minutes in class) Pg. 6 #s 6-9, 15-18, 25-30, 43-50, and 53. Some problem spots will occur with number 53! That's ok, do your best and we'll go over it in class!
Tomorrow it looks as if we will be doing some in-class work so I can check agendas/bellringers!
See ya then!

Ok Folks! Today was a very busy day, our first day of actual work. In the regular classes the students completed a Venn Diagram on Fractions, Decimals, Integers, and Whole numbers. They also had vocab to complete (listed below). Tomorrow we will move on with our Unit, we're playing a speed game, YES!!! In the advanced class we had our first lesson on solving equations, so far, so good! The advanced class also had some vocabulary to complete (listed below also). We will continue working on equations for a few days! Tomorrow is the first home football game, that means it's blue and white day! I wish I could go to the game but I have band practice, bummer...tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for kids, I think. Come out and support the Panthers! Later on kiddies!

Alrighty boys and girls, as promised, we conducted a few tests to figure out how we learn. In a few classes we even made a bar graph of the different types of learners in the classroom. We had quite the variety of learners! No Homework again tonight, lucky you, this won't last long! I am excited to start into the first unit which will begin Wednesday! Have a great afternoon, see ya!

So, as you guys are playing xbox or going to football practice I have been busy planning for the upcoming weeks. But hey, I got to eat at sheetz for lunch! Looks like we're going to start next week by giving you the inventory tests we talked about yesterday. By the end of the day Tuesday we should know what type of learner you are and whether you have the most in common with Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, or Rabbit! See ya then!
Yesterday was the first day of school! I am going to consider it a huge success. The technology held up just as it was suppose to, I was even able to let the students take an online poll! The poll asked what their favorite part of this summer was; the winner....vacation! No matter what they tell their parents, they enjoyed the family vacation. We also went over classroom procedures and they took my syllabus home to go over with the family. Have a great weekend, see ya Monday!
